Mary Ruth Gilbert Carroll, 88, of High Point redeemed her gift of eternal life on Thursday, March 2, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro. Born August 25, 1928, in Leaksville, NC, Mrs. Carroll was the daughter Elmer Gene and Sallie Bowling Gilbert. On October 28, 1950 she married the love of her life, Eugene Edgar Carroll, Jr. of Caswell County, NC. Mrs. Carroll was predeceased by an infant daughter, Gloria Jean, on September 18, 1951 and by her husband on October 28, 1997. She was also predeceased by a sister and six brothers.  Mrs. Carroll is survived by two sons, Eugene Edgar "Eddie" Carroll III and wife Hope, of Belews Creek, NC and James Gilbert Carroll and wife Anne, of High Point, NC. Additionally she is survived by sister Margaret Robertson and brother Ralph Gilbert, both of Eden, NC. She is also survived by grandchildren Nathan Andrew Carroll (Erika), Meredith Layne Carroll (Andi), and Clay Dalton Carroll. She adored her four great-grandchildren: Tyler, Ava, Keegan and Lucas.

Mrs. Carroll was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She graduated from Leaksville High School and Danville Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Her strong desire to help others led to her dream vocation of nursing. It was the perfect profession for her as her caring attitude made her ideal for the job. She commented recently she was so glad she chose to be a nurse. Not only was she a professional nurse, but friends and relatives often called her for comfort, advice and "at home" nursing care. Many benefitted from her wonderful cooking. Her Lemon Pound Cake was unofficially declared "best in the world."She was a very positive person who dropped everything in support of her family and will be missed greatly by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held on Monday,March 6, at 2 pm at Harrelson Funeral Service in Yanceyville.  The family will greet friends at Harrelson Funeral Service from 3-5 pm on Sunday, March 5.

Memorials are requested to be sent to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Carolinas Chapter, 7101 Creedmoor Rd., Suite 130, Raleigh, NC 27613.

The obituary is a fitting tribute to the life of this beautiful woman. She did indeed give of herself, her generous spirit permeated every life she touched.

Eddie, Jimmie, you are blessed to call her your mother.

We can surely find comfort in knowing that God loves us and he cares for us, through talking to him in prayer, and from reading his inspired Word, the Bible. Psalm 36:7 says: "How precious your loyal love is, O God! In the shadow of your wings, the sons of men take refuge". 1 Peter 5:7..."throw all your anxiety (cares, worries) on him, because he cares for you". Please accept my sincere condolences. Always remember Jehovah God loves you and he cares for you! (Psalm 147:3; Psalm 55:22) www.jw.org
