BLANCH

Joanne Matherly Wray, 72, died Wednesday, November 29, 2017 peacefully surrounded by family. She was born September 24, 1945 in Penhook, Va., daughter of late Edna Steele and Moncie Matherly. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wray was preceded in death by her sister, Peggy Campbell, and her brother Ricky Matherly.

Mrs. Wray loved spending time with her family, and idolized each of her grandchildren. Her family describes her as an "awesome mother" and a wonderful person. She worked at Health-tex for over 30 years and would regularly call her workers "her babies" whom she deeply loved and appreciated. Mrs. Wray showed true Baptist hospitality; she never knew a stranger. She will truly be missed by all.

Surviving are her husband, Pete Wray of Blanch, NC; her daughters Jerald (Donald) Lawson of Providence, NC and their 2 daughters, Mary Kate Welch and Lillian Lawson; her daughter Candice Smith of Blanch, NC and her 3 sons, Alan Riddick, Christopher Porter, and Caleb Porter; her schnauzer Jasmine and her schnauzer/beagle mix Toby.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM till 6:00 PM Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Harrelson Funeral Services Chapel. After which, Mrs. Wray will be escorted home for a short visit.

Thinking of the Wray family at this difficult time. May you find the comfort and peace Our loving Heavenly Father offers in response to heartfelt prayer (Philippians 4:6, 7). We look forward to the time when He eliminates all causes for sorrow, as promised in His Holy Word (Isaiah 25:8; Revelation 21:3, 4).
