Music by The Piano Brothers

Yanceyville, North Carolina

Mary Wilma Watlington Martin White, 88 went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, Saturday, June 6, 2020. She passed peacefully at Duke Home Hospice in Durham, NC after a brief illness. She was born in Caswell County, the third daughter of the late Oscar Bryan Watlington, Sr. and Fannie Sue Roberts Watlington. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Martin and her second husband, Bradsher “Brad” T. White; four brothers, O.B. Watlington, Jr., Irvin Watlington, Earl Watlington, and Penn Watlington; two dear sisters, Anna Odell and Doris Allen; niece Sandra Shirkey, great niece Robin Shirkey and nephew Earl Watlington, Jr. and her stepson Alan White.

Mary Wilma retired from Royal Textile Mills at the age of 85 with over sixty years of service. She was known for her love and care of animals, especially her little dogs. She would call the birds up in the mornings and they would appear in the trees waiting for her to feed them. Mary Wilma was a tireless servant to her family, many times sacrificing herself for the benefit of others. If she was your friend, then you had a great treasure indeed. She was dedicated in work, accurate in detail, kind and humble to a fault. She was always well kept, pretty and well-appointed in her appearance, but never flamboyant. For those family members younger than her she loved us like a mother, shared life with us like a sister and cared daily for us like your good best friend. She knew how to love people. Mary Wilma was truly a special woman. A faithful member of Prospect United Methodist Church; she taught Sunday school, was a lifelong choir member and served her church family in numerous capacities over her lifetime. She was also an active member of the Caswell County Senior Center Choir. Those fellow choir members were a bright spot in her week; she truly loved singing with them. She was small in stature but large in life. She cannot be replaced and we will miss her amazing presence in our lives.

Surviving nieces and nephews: Dianne Murphy, Jim Shirkey, Russell Watlington (Marlene), Janice Burch (Dickie), Debbie Watlington, Marty Allen (Gail), Jimmy Watlington (Gina), Nathan Watlington, Bill Farthing, stepdaughter Kim Hodge (Steve), stepsons Steven and Michael White, sister in law, Gloria Farthing, two step grandchildren and six great step grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM Friday, June 12, 2020 at Harrelson Funeral Services, 143 Third Ave. Yanceyville NC.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Prospect United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Due to COVID-19 restrictions the church service is by invitation only. All are welcome at the gravesite.
