PROVIDENCE
Michael “Mike” Writche Hooper of Providence, NC died unexpectedly on September 9, 2020. Born July 20, 1957 in Danville, VA, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Florence S. Hooper. . In his youth he was active in Boy Scouts and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended the 1973 National Boy Scout Jamboree in Idaho. He graduated from Piedmont Academy in 1975 where he participated in various sports. In 1979, he graduated from Western Carolina University with a degree in Business Marketing and Management. He was the fourth-generation owner and operator of W.H. Hooper & Son, Inc. hardware store on the square in Yanceyville, NC. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and attained Black Belt status in Karate/Jiu-Jitsu.
Mike is survived by his son Jacob M. Hooper and wife Ashley; grandson Joshua J. Hooper; step grandchildren, Madison and Paisley Bray; brother, William C. “Chuck” Hooper and wife Marthann and their daughter Jennifer; uncle and aunt, Jack and Anne Hooper; aunts, Ola S. Willis and Helen S. Stainback; mother of his son, Joy W. Walker; and grandmother of his son, Margie Walton.
The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to Jim and Foy Chambers, Cindi Hooper Millay, Teresa Hooper Harding and Margie Walton.
Graveside services will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at Yanceyville Town Cemetery (formerly Yanceyville UMC Cemetery) by Pastor Bob Paddock and Pastor Todd Hartley. There will be no formal visitation, however, you may offer your condolences to the family after the graveside service. The family requests that masks and social distancing be observed during the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Yanceyville VFD, PO Box 300, Yanceyville, NC 27379.
