Evelyn Stanley Hughes, 83, of 267 Easy Street died Tuesday March 4, 2008 at Danville Regional Medical Center following a period of declining health.

She was born in McClure, Virginia March 13, 1924, to the late Garland and Mattie Powers Stanley. She was educated in the Virginia School System. She graduated from Danville Memorial Nursing School and was a nurse at the hospital for several years. She loved her flowers and camping with her husband. She was always involved in church work and was a member of Providence Baptist Church.

Funeral Services will be Friday 11 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. W. Lee Cook, pastor. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Survivors are two sons, Carol Smith of Reidsville and Aaron D. Hughes of Port Royal, S.C., two daughters Lenora H. Jones and Sherrian H. Pyrant, both of Kannapolis, N.C., one sister Faye Trimble of Blacksburg, Virginia. Thirteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren also survive.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Carl D. Hughes,  one son Gene Smith, and one granddaughter Erin Hughes.

The family will receive friends Thursday 7-8:30 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Service, Yanceyville and other times at residence.
