Hassel “H.D.” Dixon Rudd passed away on June 5, 2019.  Born in Caswell County, he was the son of the late Tommy Rudd and the late Mary Frances Rudd Boswell.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 62 years, Ruby Garner Rudd, daughter Gloria Maples, two brothers Thomas Hurley Rudd, and Eugene Malloy Rudd.
Mr. Rudd served in the United States Army, during World War II.  Mr. Rudd served as a Tech Sergeant, having worked at the headquarters in the European theater during the war.  During his time with the US Army Mr. Rudd received the Bronze Star.
After being honorably discharged from the military Mr. Rudd worked for Henry C. Beck Company in Texas for over forty seven years.  This was his first and only job, and one that he completed with dedication and service.  While living in Texas Mr. Rudd completed very long and fulfilling career in Construction Management. Mr. Rudd returned home to Yanceyville in 1990, where he built a home on his father’s farm.  Mr. Rudd was known as a mentor to younger co-workers, and a friend to any that he met.  Mr. Rudd also served as a deacon at First Baptist Church.  Mr. Rudd received recognition, from the Association of General Contractors for his negotiations with the Labor Union in the Dallas area.  
Mr. Rudd is survived by one son, Don Rudd and wife Vicki of California, and one daughter, Betty Rudd Walker, and husband Brent of Cary, NC.  Mr. Rudd is also survived by two sisters in law, Nancy Rudd, and Dot Rudd.  
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Yanceyville by Pastor Britt Groom. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the church. Interment will follow, with Military Rites provided by the VFW Post 7316at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist.
Pallbearers will be Steve Scheinert, Bruce Rudd, Jeff Sicz, Jimmy Smith, Charlie King, John Egerton and Laurie East.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Yanceyville.
