Billings “Bill” Carpenter Miner, Sr., 75, of 440 Gaddy Rd., Semora, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 26, 2019 at his home. Born in Westerly, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late John Miner and Lila Carpenter Miner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Billings Carpenter Miner, Jr. Bill and his loving wife of over 50 years; Frances Cahoon Miner moved to Person County from Pawcatuck, Connecticut 17 years ago and has been living in Semora for over 14 years. Bill was an active member of the Semora Ruritan Club, as well as active member of the Boy Scouts, Troop #239. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a “M.P.” Military Police from 1964-1968 during the Vietnam War and later went on to retire from General Dynamics Inc Electric Boat Div. after over 30 years of devoted and dedicated service.

In addition to his wife of over 50 years, Frances Cahoon Miner of the home, Bill is survived by one son, Jeffrey Miner and wife Carolyn of Westerly, RI; three brothers, John Miner and wife Diane of Palm Beach, FL, Rev. Robert Miner and wife Glee of MA, and Thomas Miner of Westerly, RI; one sister, Lila Miner Cleveland and husband Thomas of North Stonington, CT; four grandchildren, Billings “Billy” Miner, III, Kaitlyn Miner, Elizabeth Miner and Zachary Miner.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM on Friday, August 2, 2019 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church by Rev. Ann Burts. A reception will follow at the church. The family will receive friends anytime at the home.

Please accept our sincere sympathy. We owe Bill a great deal of thanks/gratitude for the work he did to help BSA Troop 239. When a scout sat in on a Board of Review with Mr. Miner, he knew that although Mr. Miner was going to ask some tough questions, there was always love and a desire for that scout to succeed in life.
