Clara Phillips Mallard, 86, crossed the River where her FAITH ended insight on April 18, 2020, which was her beloved husband's birthday at Pinehurst Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Clara was born in Surry County. She spent her childhood in Mayodan, NC. After her marriage to Edgar Mallard, she moved to Fort Stewart, Georgia. The couple later settled in Charlotte where she served the community as a childcare worker and as an employee of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system. The family moved to the Derby community of Richmond County, North Carolina in the mid-nineteen seventies.

Clara always worked in the church where she attended. She was a Sunday School teacher, choir director, and soloist. She loved to sing songs about Jesus, and as long as she lived, she never forgot the words to Sweet Beulah Land.

Clara was a loving mother, grandmother, great, and great-great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Mallard, brother, Owen Phillips, and parents, Edwin and Lula Martin Phillips.

Clara is survived by daughters Wanda Burgess (Butch) of Jackson Springs, Beverly Mallard; Annette McNeill; and Lisa McCaskill (Mitch). Grandchildren are Shannon Hearne (Daniel), Ryan McCaskill, Caleb Purvis, Chad McCaskill (Ashley), Allison Hendrix (Michael), Spenser Combs (Tim), Christian McCaskill, Jordan McNeill, and Nicholas McCaskill. Great-grandchildren are Beth Hearne, Ben Hearne (Shannon), Rebecca Hearne (Nicholas Locklear), Matthew McCaskill, Addyson McCaskill, Hayden Hendrix, and Cameron Hendrix. Great-great grandchildren are Dustin Bittle and Elizabeth Hearne. . Also surviving are “sister” Lorene Chappell (Earl), “adopted” daughter Debbie Reid (Charles), and many nieces & nephews.

Harrelson Funeral Services of Yanceyville and Carter Funeral Home of Ellerbe are privileged to be serving the Mallard family.

Due to the CoVid-19 pandemic a private, graveside service will be held at Jones Springs Cemetery with the Rev. Bucky Hendrix virtually officiating.  The family is aware and very humbled that there are many people who would love to attend Mama Clara's Service; the family would appericate if anyone feels led to please share your memories, stories but especially of how she bore witness to you and others of her Lord and Savior JESUS CHRIST by going to www.harrelsonfs@yahoo.com
