YANCEYVILLE

Ruby Marie Gwynn, 80, of 3258 US Hwy 158W, Yanceyville, passed on away on Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Hospice of Rockingham County. Born in Caswell County, Marie was the daughter of the late Joseph Daniel Gwynn Sr. and Ruby Gwynn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Daniel Gwynn Jr. and Dr. George Richard Gwynn.

Marie was a lifetime member of Prospect UMC but had attended Providence Baptist Church for over two years. She retired from Caswell County Dept. of Social Services and also retired from NC Dept. of Public Safety. She was the secretary/treasurer for the West Yanceyville Water System for many years. After retirement, Marie continued to serve her community. She was an active volunteer with Caswell Parish and Meals on Wheels, an usher for Caswell Civic Center and very active with Caswell County Center of Arts. Marie was also an avid gardener, which was evident in the beautiful flowers that she loved so much. She also had a K-9 companion, Foxy, that she loved dearly.

Marie is survived by one brother, Dr. William H. Gwynn DDS MS and wife Jean Foster of Hickory and their children Laura, Stan, Scott and Doug; two sister in-laws, Peggy Sykes Gwynn of Yanceyville and her children Brenda, Cynthia and John, and June Poteat Gwynn and her son Joe; special life-long friends Linda Dodson Poteat and husband Wayne of Providence; and several great nieces and nephews.

A Graveside service will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Prospect UMC Cemetery by Rev. Mitch Cifers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Rockingham or Prospect UMC.

Marie was a wonderful lady I had the privilege of meeting when I went to work at DSS in 1988. She was a sweet lady and I always enjoyed talking with her when she visited the local library. She will definitely be missed.
