RUFFIN

Anthony Byron Hodges, 69 of 1032 Bethesda Church died peacefully Monday, July 27, 2020 at Annie Penn Hospital following a brief illness.  Born in Rockingham County, NC he was the son of the late Fielding Jones Hodges & Dorothy McKinney Rudd who survives of Appomattox, VA. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his step-father Hurley Rudd and his brother Fielding Mac Hodges.  

Anthony was a U. S. Air Force Veteran having served during the Vietnam Conflict (1970-1974).  He retired as a sergeant from N. C. Dept. of Corrections (Dan River Prison Work Farm) after nearly thirty years of dedicated service. He was a member of VFW Post #7316 and lifetime member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder for numerous years. One of his favorite pastimes was hunting.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Gloria Dean Gusler Hodges of the home; two sons, Mark Hodges and wife Robin of Appomattox, VA and Freddie Hodges of Ruffin; one grandson, Bryan Hodges and one granddaughter, Taylor Hodges, both of Appomattox, VA; and his K9 companion Patches.

Graveside Rites will be held at 11AM on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at Bethesda Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Ruffin by Rev. Mac McDowell. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 PM on Friday, July 31, 2020 at Harrelson Funeral Services Chapel in Yanceyville and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Home Health and Hospice of Rockingham County.

We are so sorry for the loss of Anthony. He was a great man and was obvious how much he loved and cared for his family. I know the days ahead will be difficult but always remember that God's grace and mercy will help you get through the difficult days and always keep close to your heart all the great memories.

Dean and family, so very sorry to hear about Anthony. He was a very good hearted person and loved his family so much. My prayers are with you all though this very difficult time. May the Lord peace surround each of you.
