Henry Thomas “Tom” Solomon, Jr., 75, of Yanceyville, NC, died peacefully surrounded by family and holding the hand of his loving wife, on Friday,  November 13, 2020.  A native and life-long resident of Caswell County, Tom was the son of the late Henry Thomas Solomon and Eva Gibson Solomon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister,  Mattie Solomon.

Tom was a beloved and faithful husband and father. He is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Jane Pruitt Solomon of the home, and son Thom Solomon and son-in-law Phillip Lanier of Bailey, NC.

He was affectionately known by his wife’s family as “Bubba Tom” and loved dearly, and he was given the nickname “Big Tom” by the family of the late Rob and Libba Walker, who were long-time neighbors and friends.  Tom will be remembered for his integrity, humility and kindness, and for his service and example to others. He worked tirelessly to provide and care for his family. Tom found joy in a simple life, always family first, and gave generously of his time helping others and serving his community.

Tom attended Bartlett Yancey Senior High School. He worked for Caswell Motor Company starting at age 16 washing cars. Tom worked for the dealership for nearly 45 years as a mechanic and service manager.  He retired from L.W. Hodges Service, Inc. in 2017.

Tom served on the Caswell Rescue Squad and the Yanceyville Volunteer Fire Department for more than 30 years.  He was recognized as Volunteer Fireman of the Year in 1987.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday November 16, 2020 at Union United Methodist Church Cemetery in Leasburg, NC by Pastor Barry Solomon. Condolences may be offered to the family after the graveside service.  The family requests that masks and social distancing be observed.

The family would like to thank the medical and palliative care teams of Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC, including the nurses on 4-West and 5-West, and the staff and nurses at Gibson House in Wentworth, NC, especially Donna and Karen. I was so sorry to hear about Tom, he was always a wonderful person. When he and Ralph worked together at Ford place they always enjoyed each other along with Jiggs Hodges. I know you will miss him, but just think GOD had gained another Angel.

God Bless each of you,

Sympathy and prayers for the family. I had the pleasure of working with Tom for over twenty years as well as serving with him as a volunteer fireman for over thirty years. We spent many Saturday afternoons together cutting firewood or hunting. Tom was kind, laid back and a great friend to anyone who needed help. He will be greatly missed by his family members and his friends.
